In a first, VO Chidambaranar Port implements integrated management system
October 18, 2017: VO Chidambaranar Port recently became the first Indian major port to implement integrated management system, complying ISO Certifications like ‘Quality Management System’, ‘Environment Management System’ and ‘Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series’ under one system, which will be renewed once in a year at a time.
October 18, 2017: VO Chidambaranar Port recently became the first Indian major port to implement integrated management system, complying ISO Certifications like ‘Quality Management System’, ‘Environment Management System’ and ‘Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series’ under one system, which will be renewed once in a year at a time.
The certificate was handed over to I Jeyakumar, chairman, VO Chidambaranar Port Trust by Suresh Nathan, Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS) in Tuticorin. S Natarajan, deputy chairman and management representative was also present on the occasion.
Presently, VO Chidambaranar Port Trust has been accredited with the new versions of ISO standards on QMS ISO 9001:2015 & EMS ISO 14001:2015 for providing seaport facilities and related support services for seaborne transport by ensuring quality service to exim trade; protecting the environment including prevention of pollution; ensuring safety by preventing injury and ill health; satisfy the needs, expectations etc of vendors to improve their business at port for the progress of the nation, with less manpower and minimum timings for port operations.
The port said in a press release, “It is a matter of pride that VO Chidambaranar Port Trust was the first major port to be certified in 1996 under Quality Management System (QMS), the second Major Port to be certified in 2005 under Environmental Management System (EMS), and also accredited with the certification of Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) with effect from 10.04.2017 and has successfully retained all the Certifications.”
