Available in both single and double cabin options, the Mahindra Imperio is targeted at small business owners looking for a small commercial vehicle (SCV) that is slightly more upmarket than the outgoing Geneio.

Externally, the Imperio features a newly designed grille, new headlamp cluster, re-designed bumper, wider air dam and round-shaped fog lights at the front. The interior boasts an all-new dashboard, Mahindra’s new signature 3-spoke steering wheel, and few other changes.

On the features front, the Imperio comes equipped with some class-leading features from passenger cars such as Fuel Smart technology, independent front suspension, brake with LSPV, follow-me-home lights, keyless entry, and telematics compatibility.

Powering the Imperio is a 2.5 litre 4-cylinder engine with common rail technology, pumping out 75 PS of peak power and 220 Nm of torque. The utility vehicle comes with a payload capacity of 1240kg along tubeless tyres wrapped around 16-inch wheels.

Speaking at the launch of the Imperio, Pravin Shah, president and chief executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra said: “In keeping with our endeavour of offering first of its kind products, we have launched the Imperio which lays a strong foundation for an entirely new generation of pickups. Being a market leader in the segment, we have identified gaps to further consolidate our presence in the SCV segment,”

“A result of extensive consumer insights, the Imperio reflects the changing aspirations of a commercial vehicle buyer. A true Make in India vehicle, I am confident that the product will be a game changer and go a long way in helping our customers.” he added.

Though the Mahindra Imperio has replaced the Genio in the Indian market, the company will continue to export the latter to international markets.
