January 6, 2018: The Adani Ennore Container Terminal at Kamarajar Port has commenced operations with berthing of the vessel ‘MV SSL Kochi’.

The weekly service will operate with four vessels, three from the first partner - Shreyas Shipping & Logistics Ltd and one from Shipping Corporation of India - the other partner in the weekly service. The port rotation of the service would cover Ennore – Kattupalli – Tuticorin – Kochi – Jebel Ali – Mundra – Krishnapatnam – Ennore.

The terminal capacity in the first phase involves 0.8 million TEUs with quay length of 400 metres, 15 metres draft, 4000 ground slots, four super post panama cranes, 12 e-RTG’s and on-dock rail connectivity.

Speaking about the commencement of operations, Capt Jeyaraj - business unit head of Adani Ennore Container Terminal stated, “We thank Shreyas Shipping & Logistics and Shipping Corporation of India for selecting Adani Ennore Container Terminal. The port has facilities such as state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern handling equipment, on-dock rail siding and RFID enabled gate operations to add value to EXIM trade and enhance overall operational efficiencies. In the near future, we also intend to augment present capacity of the facility from 0.8 million TEUs to 1.2 million TEUs.”

Krishnasamy, general manager – operations, Kamarajar Port congratulated Adani Ennore Container Terminal and assured of all possible support and assistance as a concessioning authority for seamless functioning of the terminal.

Adani Ennore Container Terminal assured the service partners of the best possible support to make the service a grand success. The guaranteed fast connectivity of the service will immensely benefit importers and exporters operating out of Chennai region and its hinterland, said the company in a press release.

Adani Ports had won concession agreement from Kamarajar Port Limited to build a container terminal at Ennore near Chennai. Kamarajar Port is strategically located on the Coromandel Coast about 24 kilometre north of Chennai Port.
