Earlier in May 2019, the second term of the Modi-led government had increased the budget to Rs1800-2000 crore for the scheme for the next 10 years to subsidise the airlines by lowering tax rates and waiving-off airport charges. The central government is also considering requests from a few state governments, including the north-eastern region. This is expected to help in connecting remote areas which have not been connected yet.
