Boeing & HPCL collaborate to expand SAF production in India
Under this partnership, both will increase SAF production in India, support domestic SAF certification, and advocate for policies strengthening the SAF ecosystem.;
Boeing and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) have partnered to strengthen India’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) ecosystem and contribute to the Indian government's environmental objectives, according to an official release from Boeing.
Under this partnership, Boeing and HPCL will work together to expand SAF production in India, support the certification of domestically produced SAF, and advocate for policies that foster a strong SAF ecosystem. Additionally, they will collaborate on implementing sustainability standards across the SAF supply chain, exploring training programmes, and sharing best practices in SAF development.
“At Boeing, we are dedicated to developing products and solutions to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals. We recognise that SAF is a critical lever for decarbonising the aviation sector and that strategic partnerships within India’s aerospace ecosystem are vital to advancing SAF production. We are proud to collaborate with HPCL to drive sustainable aviation efforts in India, for India,” says Salil Gupte, President, Boeing India and South Asia.
HPCL is actively advancing the commercialisation of SAF in India, with a strong focus on its development and production. Leading this effort is the HP Green R&D Centre, which has pioneered and patented its proprietary Trijet technology to convert used cooking oil into SAF, the release added.
“As the global aviation sector intensifies efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the development and widespread adoption of SAF has become crucial to achieving long-term sustainability goals,” says Amit Garg, Director, Marketing, HPCL.
SAF can reduce carbon emissions by up to 84% over its life cycle, depending on the feedstock, with the potential for even greater reductions in the future.
