September 21, 2018: GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), the company that manages the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has announced that MIAL Cargo has received the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) – LO operator certification by The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which is valid for 10 years.
The AEO certification offers an opportunity for customs to share its responsibilities with the businesses, while at the same time rewarding them with a number of additional benefits. These business entities are provided with tangible benefits in the form of faster customs clearances and simplified customs procedures.
The World Customs Organization had in June 2005 adopted the SAFE Framework of Standards to secure and facilitate global trade, and Indian customs adopted the same in the year 2017. Since then, this unique international instrument has ushered in modern supply chain security standards with the help of a closer partnership between customs and business in the form of AEO programme, which constitutes one of the three pillars on which SAFE Framework rests.
GVK MIAL stated that the certification re-affirms MIAL as a secure and reliable trading partner domestically and globally.
