DP World Chennai hosts deep draft vessel to have docked at the Chennai port

Jan 10, 2017: Global trade enabler DP World operating the Chennai Container Terminal has again created history by hosting the deep draft vessel to have docked at the Chennai Port. With a draft of 14.6 metre the terminal successfully hosted M V CMA CGM Bellini on January 7.

DP World Chennai together with the Chennai Port Trust have undertaken the exercise to deepen the draft of the terminal and provide solution to the customers who are looking at upsizing their vessels. Commenced in a phased manner, DP World Chennai has now increased its draft to accommodate vessels of 15 metres.

Commenting on the development, K K Krishnadas, CEO, DP World Chennai, said, “As the industry is witnessing a growth in larger vessels, there is a need for us to upgrade our infrastructure too. We are working together with the port authorities in order to be aligned with the expansion plans of various shipping lines. This trend is expected to continue in the wake of global consolidation and alliance realignment in the industry.”
