MSC Hamburg reaches JNPA terminal, longest carrier to call Indian port

MSC Hamburg has carrying capacity of 16,652 TEUs with an overall length of 399 metres

In what could be termed as a significant achievement for Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the maritime industry, MSC Hamburg, the longest vessel ever to call at an Indian port, arrived safely at PSA's Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) at 11.24 am today.

"MSC Hamburg , built in 2015, is sailing under the flag of Panama. Her carrying capacity is 16,652 TEUs and her current draught is reported to be 14 metres. Her length overall (LOA) is 399 metres and her width is 54 metres," says an official release.


Sanjay Sethi, Chairman, JNPA says: "We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of MSC Hamburg at our terminal. We are proud to contribute to the global supply chain and play a pivotal role in facilitating trade across continents. This remarkable achievement symbolises the strength of our maritime capabilities and available infrastructure to facilitate seamless trade and commerce. The arrival of MSC Hamburg marks another significant milestone in our journey towards establishing JNPA as a global hub for maritime excellence.

In commemoration of the call, Balasaheb Pawar, Deputy Conservator, JNPA and Girish Thomas, General Manager (Traffic), JNPA presented a plaque to the Master of MSC Hamburg on behalf of Chairman Sanjay Sethi and Deputy Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh.
