Delta Airlines may pick up Jet Airways’ stake
July 04, 2017: Jet Airways is reportedly exploring opportunities to expand its commercial ties with American carrier Delta Air Lines, which could pick up a stake in the Mumbai-based carrier. Currently, 24 percent stake in Jet is owned by Etihad Airways.
In May end, Jet announced the appointment of former Delta senior vice-president Vinay Dube as its chief executive. According to sources, the Jet Airways management is planning for a commercial joint venture with Delta and Air France-KLM. Participating airlines under a joint venture share revenue and profits on routes.
Earlier this year, Jet announced expansion of its codeshare partnership with Delta as well as Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
KLM has already shared its plan to connect the networks and passengers from tier II towns in India to tier II towns in the US via Amsterdam. The Air France-KLM group calls it a win-win situation for itself as well as the Jet Airways.
