May 28, 2019: Buddha Air began its maiden flight from Kathmandu to Kolkata recently. According to an Airports Authority of India (AAI) statement "the airline's maiden flight arrived at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport in Kolkata with 56 passengers and a total 64 passengers went to Kathmandu in the return flight."

Buddha Air will operate three flights a week between Kathmandu and Kolkata with ATR-72 aircraft.

The operations were initially scheduled to begin on April 16, but were deferred due to the Lok Sabha elections in India.

"The airline will now begin its operation from May 27 instead of its earlier plan to start from April 16. Both the India government and all agencies involved with aviation business suggested to begin the service post-election. So we decided to defer it," Rupesh Joshi, marketing director, Buddha Air had said.
