January 25, 2020: Sanjay Sethi, chairman, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) noted the importance of Indore market for the port at Navi Mumbai and exalted the connectivity between the two places in a knowledge session organized in the city today along with Antwerp Port Authority in association with Associated Global Logistics.

The session titled “Gateways for trade between the India-Europe corridors” focused on the role of ports in international trade and supply chain ecosystem, innovations impacting the sector and the various initiatives to be undertaken for a seamless gateway to customers trading via ocean between the India-Europe corridors.
Indore to JNPT cargo-rail connectivity
Indore is connected with JNPT through rail, CONCOR Container Corporation of India connects traffic of ICD Pithampur & Ratlam at JN Port and Distribution Logistics Infra connects traffic of ICD Dhannad at JN Port.

Indore is a significant market for us, therefore connectivity from here is extremely significant for and it will further increase the market economy of Indore and Madhya Pradesh. Initiatives by JNPT
To meet the increasing demand from EXIM trade, JNPT is constantly upgrading its capabilities to offer cost-effective integrated logistics solutions, through infrastructure expansion plans and implementation of several ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiatives. These steps include gate automation, an inter-terminal transfer system linking all terminals, Direct Port Delivery (DPD) services helping faster delivery of import consignments at reduced costs, creation of logistics data bank to track the movement of containers and introduction of new tariff incentives for rail cargo to promote modal shift.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) at Navi Mumbai is the biggest container handling Port in India accounting for around 52% of the total containerized cargo volume, across the major ports of India. Commissioned on 26th May 1989, in less than three decades of its operations, JNPT has transformed from a bulk-cargo terminal to become the premier container port in the country.
