GVK MIAL Cargo bags ‘Certificate of Merit’ on International Customs Day

Feb 01, 2017: On the occasion of International Customs Day, the Cargo division of GVK MIAL, the company that administers Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), was awarded the ‘Certificate of Merit’ under the category of ‘Best Custodian’. The prestigious recognition was bestowed upon MIAL in an award ceremony orchestrated by Devendra Singh, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Air Cargo Complex at the YB Chavan Auditorium recently. At the celebrations, MIAL was felicitated in the presence of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, as Chief Guest and Godrej Group of Company’s Chairman Adi Godrej as the guest of honour.
The Mumbai International Airport houses a state-of-the-art cargo export terminal for processing heavy and bonded cargo, spread over 7,500 square metre, and capable of handling 300,000 tonnes of cargo per annum. The first-of-its-kind terminal is a part of MIAL’s ongoing Cargo Master Plan, and not only increments export capacity, but also helps reduce the overall dwell time by a considerable extent. Currently handling a throughput of over 0.7 million metric tonnes per annum, stated a release.
Each year, the celebrations are set around a particular theme; this year’s being “Data Analysis for Effective Border Management.” Important stakeholders from the air cargo and ocean cargo industry, including exporters, importers, customs brokers, and customs officials from all over India, freight forwarders and other regulatory authorities dealing with air cargo and ocean cargo clearance were a part of the occasion. The decision for awarding the list of nominations was made by a jury comprising of the Chief Commissioners of Customs.
