Indian Railways to invite bid for 150 private trains soon

December 30, 2019: With Finance ministry’s approval to run 150 private trains in the country, Indian Railways will be inviting bids within two weeks.

Indian Railways has picked 100 routes to run 150 private passenger train rakes and bids for the routes are likely to be invited next month, report Economic Times. Thirty-five of the 100 routes will connect to New Delhi, 26 to Mumbai, 12 to Kolkata, 11 to Chennai and eight to Bengaluru, all metropolitan cities.

Introducing private players to run trains comes in line with the government’s plan to restructure the Railways.
