Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal sees highest traffic in April 2016
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT), which is one of the three terminals of JN Port and is operated by the port authority, has handled 133,195 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units) in April 2016, which is the highest traffic handled in a month since inception of the terminal.
On month to month comparison, April 2016 throughput has registered a growth of 35 percent in comparison to April 2015.
Further, this is also a 12 percent growth over the average monthly cargo handling of the year 2015-16. The earlier record handling was 132155 TEUs handled during August 2015.
JNPCT is the biggest container handling Port in India, handling around 56 percent of the country’s containerised cargo, crossing the historic landmark of 4 million TEU’s in container throughput and aim to handle 10 million TEU’s pa by year 2020-21.
