CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd has inducted its first heavy-duty battery electric vehicle in partnership with Volvo, marking the company’s entry into higher-capacity electric freight operations. The move signals a shift from pilot deployments to integrating electric vehicles into core logistics operations.

The inducted vehicle is the first heavy-duty battery electric vehicle in CJ Darcl’s fleet. It is also the third such vehicle introduced by Volvo Trucks in India, placing CJ Darcl among the early adopters of heavy-duty electric freight technology in the country.

"Sustainability is becoming central to how logistics networks are designed and operated. With this induction, we are moving towards integrating cleaner technologies into mainstream operations. As the industry evolves, we, at CJ DARCL Logistics, are on a mission to become a carbon-neutral company. By promoting sustainable practises, we are actively working towards achieving this goal while setting an example for the logistics industry.," said Nikhil Agarwal, President, CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd.

The development builds on CJ Darcl’s 2024 initiative under the theme “Driving Towards a Greener Tomorrow,” where the company deployed electric vehicles for intra-city aftermarket supply in Bengaluru. That deployment established operational feasibility for electric mobility within its network. The addition of a heavy-duty battery electric vehicle extends the use case to higher payload and longer-haul operations.

The collaboration with Volvo Trucks was developed over 18 months and included assessments across technical specifications, route planning, payload requirements, and system integration. Volvo’s electric powertrain capabilities and its presence in the Indian commercial vehicle segment supported the transition of heavy-duty electric freight into operations.

CJ Darcl stated that the induction aligns with its decarbonisation strategy focused on measuring, reporting, and reducing Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions. The integration of electric mobility into its multimodal network reflects a shift towards low-emission logistics while supporting customer requirements and national carbon reduction targets.

CJ Darcl Logistics Ltd operates a multimodal logistics network across 6,691 locations in India and works with a vendor base of 554,781. In FY25, the company transported 22.42 million metric tonnes of goods and served over 2,277 customers across sectors. It reported revenue of over Rs 5,000 crore.
