Lufthansa Cargo to increase freighter network to India

March 1, 2019: Lufthansa Cargo is set to increase its freighter frequency to India, by adding new connections to Mumbai, with seven weekly flights then being offered there. The offering from Frankfurt to Chennai and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) will also be doubled - with an AeroLogic (3S) Boeing 777F then travelling there twice a week.

With the forthcoming schedule change, there will be many new frequencies on routes to and from Asia: another two flights per week will be added to the freighter connection from Frankfurt to Tokyo Narita. Besides the daily Boeing 777F, an MD-11F will now also connect the city in Japan with Frankfurt via Novosibirsk on Wednesdays and Fridays, thereby offering an additional 170 tonnes of cargo capacity. Furthermore, Osaka will be flown to three times rather than twice weekly with an MD-11F. Seoul Incheon will also be connected on the outward leg from Frankfurt, taking Lufthansa Cargo's total number of South Korean frequencies to nine a week. Lufthansa's cargo arm will fly to Hong Kong with an MD-11F daily instead of six times a week, offering an additional 85 tonnes of freighter capacity per week on this route.

The new summer schedule incorporates the capacity of the two brand-new Boeing 777Fs recently delivered to Lufthansa Cargo and AeroLogic. Overall, Lufthansa Cargo will boost its capacity offering by around ten percent with the new schedule.

There will also be additional flights to North America: in the future, Atlanta will be served seven times a week instead of the previous six and Chicago is scheduled for twelve flights a week instead of eight from the summer.

There will be changes to the aircraft used to serve Central and South America: a Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777F only will be used in the future on the new direct flights to Mexico City and on the rotations from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires via Viracopos and Montevideo and from Frankfurt to Viracopos via Curitiba as well as on the direct flight from Frankfurt to Viracopos, with a stop in Dakar on the return leg. This will facilitate new direct flights between Europe and South America that will reduce the flight time between the two continents by several hours.

The summer schedule will come into effect on 31 March 2019. Bookings will be accepted up to 30 days in advance.
