SpiceJet signs MoU with Snowman to move Covid vaccines

December 11, 2020: The Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet and the cold chain provider Snowman Logistics have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for storage, transportation and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines from various manufacturers, across India and internationally, in the required temperature-controlled zones.

“Under the MoU, SpiceJet will offer seamless air logistics to Snowman clients and customers by combining their areas of expertise and strength,” says the Spicejet statement.

“As per the understanding, Snowman will handle the ground services such as transportation to/from manufacturers, warehouses, airports and consumption points, packing, storage & warehousing, in the required temperature zones,” reads the BSE filling of Snowman Logistics.

The MoU with Snowman Logistics is the latest initiative taken by SpiceJet after it joined hands with OM Logistics to provide a cool chain network to transport Covid-19 vaccines.

Sunil Nair, chief executive officer, Snowman Logistics, said, “Both SpiceJet and Snowman Logistics are on the path for a long term collaboration and we have decided to start this by taking on the challenge of transporting Covid-19 vaccines. Urgency and low volume are the two criteria for when Snowman Logistics will need aircraft of SpiceJet to move the vaccines.”

Regarding the preparations and challenges, he said, “We don’t have any particular challenge in the case of transporting these vaccines except the speed and volume by which we have to move them.” He also noted that Snowman Logistics has plans to collaborate with other stakeholders similarly but won’t be able to disclose them right now.”

Since the lockdown began, SpiceJet and its cargo arm, SpiceXpress, have worked to ensure the transport of vital goods and medical supplies to all corners of India and the world. SpiceXpress recently launched a new specialized service, Spice Pharma Pro, dedicated to transporting Covid vaccines, medicines, blood samples and temperature-sensitive cargo.

With Spice Pharma Pro, SpiceXpress can transport extremely sensitive drugs, vaccines, blood samples and medicines in controlled temperatures ranging from -40°c to +25°c.
