Sukhbir Singh Sandhu appointed as new chairman of NHAI

October 25, 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led appointments committee of the Cabinet has appointed IAS officer Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as the chairman of National Highways Authority of India on Wednesday.

His appointment comes in the midst of a crisis mode in the authority as the Prime Minister%u2019s office already asked NHAI to stop building new roads.

October 25, 2019: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led appointments committee of the Cabinet has appointed IAS officer Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as the chairman of National Highways Authority of India on Wednesday.

His appointment comes in the midst of a crisis mode in the authority as the Prime Minister’s office already asked NHAI to stop building new roads and instead instructed to persuade the private sector to run the completed projects. NHAI has a debt of Rs 5 lakh crore and contingent liabilities as of now.

He was the additional secretary at the department of education and has replaced Narendra Nath Sinha, who on Tuesday was appointed as the secretary to the department for border management. 1988 batch IAS officer from the Uttarakhand Cadre had earlier served as the additional secretary to Central Universities & Language of Human Resource and Development.
