VO Chidambaranar Port Trust inks MoU with Central Warehousing Corporation

June 11, 2019: VO Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) for facilitating Direct Port Entry (DPE) of e-sealed factory stuffed export container to VO Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin under ‘ease of doing business’.

After signing the MoU, Central Warehousing Corporation will make use of the 18,357 sqm area earmarked in the Truck Parking Terminal located opposite to Fisheries College, Tuticorin for operating and managing the DPE facility for 30 years on annual lease rental basis.

The DPE facility will enable direct movement of containers from factories without intermediate handling requirement at any container freight station thus facilitating the shippers to gate-in their factory-stuffed goods directly to the container terminal on 24 x 7 basis.

Speaking on the occasion, TK Ramachandran, IAS, Chairman, VO Chidambaranar Port Trust stated that the Direct Port Entry facility would benefit the exporters by speeding up the flow of cargo across various logistics service providers, decrease the logistics cost and reduce the dwell time of export container.

Arun Kumar Shrivastava, managing director, Central Warehousing Corporation stated: “Central Warehousing Corporation, a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the administrative control of the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, government of India is optimistic to take up the DPE service for the benefit of the trade using VO Chidambaranar Port and this effort would help the traffic of V.O. Chidambaranar Port to grow steadily."
