Dec 29, 2016: VO Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin signed the Concession Agreement for construction of captive berth and Land Lease Agreement for construction of thermal power plant with SEPC Power, Chennai.
The signed Land Lease Agreement was exchanged by S Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman, VO Chidambaranar Port Trust and Chakka Peda Subbiah, Managing Director, SEPC Power, Chennai. The signed Concession Agreement was exchanged by S Natarajan, Deputy Chairman & Estate Officer, VO Chidambaranar Port Trust and P Sathyakumar, Vice President, SEPC Power.
For construction of 1 x 525 MW thermal power plant at an estimated cost of Rs 3514 crores by SEPC Power, Port has allotted 36.81 hectares of land in the port estate. For construction of captive berth for handling coal required for thermal power plant, port has allotted water-front of 180 metre x 15 metre. The captive berth would be constructed by SEPC Power at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crores.
The annual requirement of around 1.5 million tonnes of coal for the thermal power plant would be transported from the Port to the Power Plant through a conveyor of 5 kilometre length. The 1 x 525 MW thermal power plant would be operational by the year 2019.
