Maersk India today inaugurated its brand new 250,000 sq ft warehouse in Bhiwandi on the outskirts of Mumbai with the tyre manufacturer JK Tyre as anchor customer.

The new facility will be the company's fifth warehouse inaugurated this year in India, taking the total footprint to over 2.1 million sq. ft., including the warehouses from the recently completed acquisition of LF Logistics.

"As an integrator of logistics, Maersk is developing and providing solutions ranging from ocean transportation to landside and air transportation, contract logistics including warehousing & distribution (W&D) and depots, custom clearances, visibility solutions and so on. With the expansion of W&D facilities, Maersk is strengthening its position further by providing a larger array of services through a single window to its customers," reads the release.

Darryl Judd commented on the inauguration of the new facility, "We are delighted to open the doors to our fourth warehousing facility in India this year, with JK Tyre & Industries as the anchor customer and the second one in Bhiwandi, Mumbai. With the new facility, we can support our customers with superior connectivity, efficient inventory management, cost optimisation, and speed to market."

Anuj Kathuria commented at the event, "We have been working with Maersk for our ocean requirements, and the warehousing solution along with primary transportation creates an end to end seamless experience for us. The Bhiwandi site will be the hub for our export as well as our domestic OEM supplies creating synergy of operations."

Maersk's new facility in Bhiwandi will be the fifth warehouse going live in 2022 after one each at Sikandrabad in Uttar Pradesh, Kolkata in West Bengal, and Pune and Bhiwandi in Maharashtra. Being strategically located on the Mumbai - Nashik highway, the facility provides excellent connectivity to the manufacturing hubs and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai.

Ocean shipping and landside logistics & distribution have traditionally been shared amongst multiple stakeholders resulting in complex supply chains. To create a seamless experience and integrated logistics solution for its customers, Maersk is strategically investing in W&D facilities along with providing ocean and landside transportation.

Last week, Maersk completed the acquisition of LF Logistics, a Hong Kong-based contract logistics company with premium capabilities within omnichannel fulfilment services, e-commerce, and inland transport in the Asia-Pacific region. LF Logistics has seven warehouses in India, which have been added to Maersk's network. The total warehousing footprint offered by Maersk to its customers in India now stands at over 2.1 million sq. ft. from the 12 warehouses.

Present at the inauguration of the new facility were Darryl Judd, Head of Products, Maersk South Asia, Anuj Kathuria, President (India), JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., Rajesh Gupta, Head of Supply Chain, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., along with leadership teams of both companies.
