WOW air announces flights to Vancouver from New Delhi

May 18, 2018: WOW air, Iceland’s low-fare transatlantic airline, recently announced the launch of its flight operations in India from December 7, 2018 subject to getting slots at the Delhi airport. The airline said that it will have five direct flights a week between New Delhi and Keflavik airport in Iceland that will connect to multiple destinations in North America and Europe.

WOW air will operate an Airbus 330 neo to India, which is its first market in Asia. Flights will have 365 seats and about 42 business class. The airline is already negotiating with GMR to get five slots per week for its wide-body Airbus.

WOW flies to 35 European and North American destinations, and it would be competing with aggressive Middle-Eastern hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi which are catering to a large international traffic originating from India.

Speaking on crude oil price rise, Skuli Mogensen, founder & CEO, WOW, said that he is not worried unless the prices go beyond $100 a barrel. By operating A330neos which are 15 per cent fuel efficient will help in keeping costs under control. Another reason for offering low fares is that they offer more services beyond selling seats. If someone comes to Iceland, they can offer best prices on hotels, car rentals and restaurants. Thus, revenues can be extracted revenues from other sources.
