Amazon India has launched three new fulfilment centres in Delhi NCR, Guwahati, and Patna ahead of the festive season.

These centres, along with the expansion of Amazon's existing network, are aimed at enhancing delivery speeds across North and East India, says an official release. “The move will help local sellers reach customers faster by bringing inventory closer to them while also creating thousands of job opportunities in the region. All three centres are now operational, supporting over 2.5 lakh sellers across Delhi NCR, Bihar, and Assam.”

Amazon’s fulfilment centres are equipped with cutting-edge technology and efficient building systems to minimise energy consumption. They are designed to achieve net water zero through features like rainwater collection tanks, recharge wells for aquifer replenishment, and sewage treatment plants. Additionally, these centres are designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities, the release added.

“I understand that Amazon India is expanding its capacity in Assam by enhancing storage and processing capabilities, scaling infrastructure and boosting employment. I hope that with this capacity building, Amazon will now be better equipped to benefit millions of local retailers, which in turn will contribute to the Indian economy,” says Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister, Assam.

Amazon recently announced the creation of over 110,000 seasonal job opportunities across operations to accommodate the increased demand during the festive season. These roles, which span both direct and indirect positions, are available in major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai, mentions the release.

“We are committed to serve our customers across every pincode in India and bring them their favourite products fast and reliably, especially during the festive season,” says Abhinav Singh, VP, Operations, Amazon India. “As part of this, we have added three new fulfilment centres to our existing pan-India operations network that consists of over 43M cu feet of storage space, sort centres in 19 states, about 2,000 delivery stations, Amazon Air, our partnerships with Indian Railways, India Post and much more. These new fulfilment centres will enable sellers in the region to better cater to customer needs while generating thousands of job opportunities, fostering economic growth in the local communities.”

Amazon has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Railways to enhance the use of the railway network for expedited package delivery nationwide. This partnership supports the government’s vision of modernising infrastructure and advancing the goals of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Rail. Since its inception in 2019, the collaboration has been instrumental in enabling Amazon India to provide 1-day and 2-day deliveries for millions of products across the country. The increased use of rail transport has resulted in a 15-fold growth in the movement of Amazon parcels via railway over the past five years, ensuring continued customer satisfaction during the festive period, the release added.
