May 25, 2019: The foundation piles for a new logistics building on the west side of logistics platform Brucargo were laid at Brussels Airport. The initiative is part of the €100 million investment for the modernisation of Brucargo, undertaken by the Brussels Airport management.
The construction is expected to be completed by 2020, following which Kuehne & Nagel, World Flight Services and Expeditors will occupy the space. The CEOs of the future tenant companies attended the symbolic event, along with Marc Grootjans, mayor of Machelen.
"With these investments in the further qualitative expansion of Brucargo, the airport is considerably increasing its offer of handling space and particularly that of refrigerated storage. These temperature-controlled rooms are not only of considerable importance for various key sectors in our country including biotech and pharmaceuticals, but also for the import and export of fresh and perishable goods. Two niche markets in which Brussels Airport is specialised and in which it is investing further," says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company.
The new building will have sustainable aspects incorporated like a green and solar panels for the office block, installation of a water infiltration system and rainwater wells for reuse of rainwater, LED lighting and heat pumps.
Charging stations for electric vehicles, two additional bus stops and a new cycle path in the area will help improve mobility of the staff in a sustainable way.
